Ed St.John - Saxophones
Ed began his musical journey playing trumpet. He studied with several top New York musicians including Harold Lieberman, Charles Sullivan and the incomparable Steve Lampert who is still a guiding force. He later switched to saxophone continuing his studies and playing in a variety of settings including big bands, saxophone quartets and various sized combos. Along with Tim he founded the IJP in 1999. In addition to performing, Ed teaches sax, flute and clarinet in Front Royal, Manassas and Middleburg.
Alan Webb - Guitar
Alan grew up in Northern Virginia and began playing guitar at an early age. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston in the early 70's. After graduation he returned to Northern Virginia where he has performed with numerous groups. He established The Guitar Studio in Manassas in 1990 where has a full roster of guitar students. Alan joined the IJP in 2006.
Tim Grant - Bass
Tim began playing bass in 1991 while studying trombone at Radford University. He held the bass chair in the RU big band as well as playing in smaller combos. After graduating in 1995 Tim continued his study of the acoustic bass. In the late 90's he was a member of the trio Kingdaddy. He and Ed formed the Intrepid Jazz Project in 1999. As a freelance bassist, Tim has recorded and performed with many acoustic musicians throughout the Shenandoah Valley.
Nate Panning - Drums
Nate is also a native of Northern Virginia. He has been playing drums for 21 years. Soon after high school he began playing with local bands including Babyfat, Blank Cheque and the Mark Brandt Trio. He has taught private lessons for 14 years and is currently the band director at Seton School in Manassas as well as being the percussion teacher at the Community School of the Piedmont in Upperville. He joined the IJP in 2005.
